1999 Vauxhall Astra poor idling

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 1999
Variant: 1.6 16v Club Ecotec
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have a problem with the car idling. When the car starts it revs up to 2000 then drops to 1500 where it some time stays when stopped, but some times when I drive then stop at traffic lights (clutch down still in first), the rev counter drops to about 500 and sometimes fluctuating and on some occasions it drops so low the car almost stalls (with the clutch down) then it jumps back up to 500! Thanks in advance.

Check / clean idle control valve and throttle body . Check for any leaks from vacuum pipes or hoses .

System is likely to have a fault listed, a comp read would be a good idea
