1999 Vauxhall Astra car is misfiring on acceleration

Would be advisable to get a block test done to check if head / gasket is not still leaking .

if you bought it from a dealer i would take it back to them under warrenty.
as said could well still be a head issue

whittingehame, if you read the post the owner has just bought it. if from a dealer will have a warrenty regardless of year.

I HAVE read the post and seen it was bought 2 weeks ago .That a vehicle of that year must have a guarantee is rubbish .It could be sold as scrap or as a trade sale , with no warranty applied .All pepends on what the invoice states re. any warranty . Most dealers of cars that year and price range will tell you the warranty expires as soon as you drive off the premises. You will usually find it impossible to buy an extended warranty from any company for a car of that age .Different if it happened a couple of days after buying , but two weeks later it they could say it was down to owner .You can buy a modern / expensive car at auction and it is only covered for a matter of hours and then only major defects .I'm afraid there are many unscrupulous people wheeling and dealing in the motor trade who would just chase you under the circumstances in post , all depends on how they want to deal with matter .
