2008 Vauxhall Astra intermittent non starter (sad possibly?)

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2008
Variant: 1.6 Club
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When the temperature is above 25 degrees, the engine will not start. Vauxhall diagnosis has identified several problems relating to the immobiliser (although none of them definitive) and neither key will work. Then when it cools down in the evening, it starts no problem. Has my car got Seasonally Affected Disorder? The previous owner had the same problem and had the CIM replaced. RAC reckons it must be something to do with sender in the dash. any other ideas?

Best bet would to repair/ rectify faults already identified on diagnostic scan ?

On that basis every component of the immobiliser system would need replacing, and as the fault disappears when the o/s temperature cools down, it seems unlikely to be the cause. Vauxhall's latest suggestion is to replace the starter motor, no-one is quite sure why, but its going to be done under the warranty, so I might as well, even though the warranty expired at the end of April.

When it doesn't start , does the engine turn over ?

No, all you get is a click. All the rest of the electrics are functioning, i.e. e/w, radio etc.

Could be intermittent fault with starter / solenoid as it heats up . Might be the cause , certainly worthwhile fitting new starter especially as they are doing it under warranty .Also eliminates another possible cause .Let's know how you get on once starter replaced ?

Many thx for your input, its reassuring to hear that this might solve the problem. Unfortunately I won't know unless we get more hot weather, and that's unlikely knowing the British climate! Watch this space!
