I HAVE A ASTRA AND I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE BATTERY LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH PARKED UP AT HOME WENT BACK OUT BIT LATER AND THE BATTERY LIGHT STILL FLASHING BUT CAN DRIVE FORWARD AND BACKWARDS BUT THE STEERING WILL NOT GO LEFT OR RIGHT

sounds like you auxillary belt has snapped or slipping the belt drives your power steering pump and alternator which charges your battery hence battery light coming on

hi there mite be to late for this answer but mine did same as that 3 days ago and it was the alternator had to get a new 1
