Engine idle

the engine cuts out at idleing & slow speeds but it does,nt happen all the time, it happens in fits n starts ive been told its possibly the engine idle valve but i dont know exacctly wich one it is (its obviosly on the carburetter somewhere).

there is only 1 idle control valve where the air box connects to the carb take it off then look on the back or either side you will see a egg shape on the middle it will also have a block conector on it with some star bolts holding it in place take it off becarfull not to brake the paper gasket clean with raw petrol or dw40 then goto the carb with a cloth and raw petrol or dw40 soak the cloth look into the carb you will see a round disc that open when you move the throtel body clean the edge off the disc and round the inside of the carb problem should be solved let me know how you get on

to blackie 247 THANKYOU for the fix & im really sorry i got the age off the car wrong its a w reg 2000 yr 7 i couldnt find the egg shaped item that you mentioned mainly because i got the year wrong for wish i apologise again now im not a mechanic but my mate has taken out the slack of the accelorater cable & uppud the revs a little to about 8000 rpm from 3000 rpm & thats solved the problem & he says its a quick fix for the moment
