Whisling noise now turned to vibrating rattling

2004 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 club twinport
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.6 club twinport
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i came off the motorway and i started hearing a screeching sound when ever i applied the brakes, then this screeching occurred even when i took off. also because the car is automatic my take off should be smooth, but i feel the steering wheel shudder. Now that screeching sound has stopped and turned into a vibrating rattle, every time i start the car and drive, it almost sounds like a motorbike ive been told. any ideas whats wrong with it?

Could be your brake pads have " screechers " which let you know pads are needing replaced .Simply a metal tab that scrapes on the disc . If not that check front wheel for excessive play , possibly wheel bearing .

so how much if that is the case do you think it would cost to repair/replace per wheel? thanks you've been a big help.

If it is only brake pads and you do the job yourself, it should only cost around £20 - £30. Can get parts from any reputable parts dealer.

If you are not sure or confident of doing the job , stick it in to a local independant garage for fitting pads . It's less than an hours labour to fit pads . Avoid places like the bigger centres that tend to bottle you up with parts not needed . If it's the pads dont take too long to get them replaced as you will damage discs .
