2004 Vauxhall Astra car misfiring constantly then losing power and engine cutting out

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.4 envoy
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i have a vauxhall astra that keeps on misfiring when i drive at the same speed for a period of time. ie. 30 mile an hour on a long road, or 70 on a motorway.
It happens every time i drive it, and haven't had any luck in the garage.
Ive got brand new spark plugs and engine management chip (forgot its name) and it still keeps happening.
After it misfires, there is a rattling noise when i accelerate and if i slow down and put the clutch in, the engine will cut out, and it will struggle to restart.
This all happens with half a tank of petrol in.
Can anyone shed any light, please??

Get a diagnostic scan done and see what shows .

I had a similar problem!
I had the all the plugs changed and the coil changed which sorted out the misfiring, and then i had to change the earthing cable from the battery to the bodywork because the fix revealed another problem.
However, this may not be the same, but by the sounds of things you need new plugs and coil!

Have a look at the fuel filler cap. There should be a breather hole or hose if it has an anti-roll device.
If the breather is blocked, the fuel pump drawing fuel from the tank could cause a vaccum and give some of the symptons you are suffering.

Immediately after driving, undo the cap and listen for a hiss as air is sucked in. No hiss - its not the breather.
