1998 Vauxhall Astra intermittetent fault on gearbox it wont change gear automaticly

occasionly the gearbox stoppes changing gear automatckly and an indicator light comes on so i change it by hand which is fine and next time i use it its ok.what do you think / a relay sticking ?

Many possible causes , you will need to get a diagnostic scan carried out and see what faults show .
