1998 Vauxhall Astra losing power when in high gear and going up hill

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 1998
Variant: 1.4 LS
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi I'm just wondering if anybody knows why my car seems to lose power when I'm going up any type of hill if it's in 3rd or 4th gear no matter how fast or slow I'm going and how hard my foot is down on the accellerator. It's only just started to happen. Please help and I'm just hoping it's not a expensive job.

I had a similar problem once. I would say its a loss of compression probably due to a faulty head gasket. worse case scenario is piston rings faulty/worn. quite dear either way soz. ligs.

Thank you for your answer. I think I've found the solution It was because the fuel filter it had some crap in it so it's running like a dream again. :)

Good to hear it was a minor repair . A partially blocked fuel filter would restrict fuel flow when engine under load , giving you that fault .
