Mass air flow meter

2002 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRI
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.8 SRI
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
We have had a suggestion that the MAF meter could be faulty. I unplugged it while the car was running and left it running a few minutes at idle and there was no difference. Does this mean that the MAF meter is faulty or would the car need to be driven with it unplugged?
Thanks

Thanks.
My dad went to a scrappy and bought one and fitted it there and then. The car runs perfectly now.
