Oil/ petrol problem

2000 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Club
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 Club
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The oil filler cap has a large deposit of brown gunge, which has been getting worse over the last few months. Also it uses a lot of oil, which doesn't seem to leak...? there is no smoke coming from the exhaust to show it is burning at all.
Any ideas?
It only does 11 mile journeys (twice a day), but i don't see why this would cause it to use so much oil...? (roughly 1 gallon for every 630 miles)
It has it's own space at work and home, and there is no oil at all showing from a leak.

it is not like these cars to use oil like that, it has to be going somewhere, either burning it or leaking into somewhere else like coolant although for that amount i would have thought it would be throwing coolant out.

firstly clean away any brown gunge that you can see in the oil filler cap and around that area the reason you are getting the brown gunge in this area is due to short journeys that you are doing and the 1600 astra must be burning the oil some where in not leaking from the rocker cover and being burnt on the manifold does the exhaust manifold like it got traces of oil on it but i would recommend that you flush the oil system out and replace the oil filter and oil
