whenever i put my car into reverse the back end just stops as though ive hit somethink and raises up then when i go forward you just hear a loud bang and it releases then it will reverse for a little bit then jams up again its driving me nuts

Either h/brake cable/ linkage sticking on or something inside brake drum causing brake shoes to stick . Make sure no sign of brake fluid leaking on brake backplate as ,if wheel cyl leaking ,it can cause brake shoes to stick on drum .

sounds like the brakes are binding,strip down the rear brakes and make sure everything is moving freely,nothing leaking and that there is plenty of meat on shoes
