Revving in neutral

How do

Had this Astra for a few years now it used to run like a dream. Then a few months back the alternator went on me whilst away on holiday. £240 for a brand new one. Then once i got it home I had a common ECU fault which kept causing the car to cut out, a wiring problem by all accounts. Since then Ive had a new timing belt fit @ 92k a new rocker cover gasket & sump pan both due to leaking.

A couple of weeks ago I took the car down to Windsor with a full tank of diesel & every now & again when I put my foot down on the motorway the car misfired. I put that down to some crap in the tank & changed the fuel filter. That's just a view of the history in case this new problem is linked.

When in neutral at lights or stops the car is revving still below 10 on the rev counter its doing it intermittently. Ive had the car checked for air leaks & my mechanic is scratching his head. After a bit of research I'm considering cleaning the throttle body & EGR value is that wise?

Thanks for looking

if they are carboned up as well as intake manifold then its worth cleaning them out, would`nt have thought this would cause misfire, just a lack of power.check your injectors and seals are not leaking

Update.

Didn't have chance to get throttle body cleaned as the car packed in again. The AA came out to it as it wouldn't start. They said i needed a new alternator. I thought that was funny as this brand new wasn't even 6 month old. So i got enough charge off them to get it to my garage & ring the alternator fitters in Glasgow (where it was fit as I was away from home when it went on me)they said to send the faulty one back for a refund on the part only. My garage tested the unit & found it OK it was just a new heavy duty battery needed. It was changed & the revving in neutral stopped. All seemed well until today when the EML decided to appear again then went out on the next start of the car. Anyone any ideas what this could be?
