the engine management light keeps coming on and when the engine is idling its rough the car runs well above above 1000 revs do i need to get it put on a machine to fin the problem

If the light is on it always gives a clue as to what is happening so yes have someone plug in and see what trouble is stored. It could be anything from something as simple as a vac leak from a split or detached pipe or a faulty component.

for this i would say crank angle sensor but do as mrfixit has said to be sure
