This happened last year and was repaired.Just happened again this week. It is getting dangerous. It is a pin that keeps breaking. This time the gearbox is damaged too. The bill is going to be about £1000. Question is as this is likely to cause a fatal accident has it occurred to any one else? Do vauxhall know? Could they be liable to the bill? If you need more info on the problem thats no trouble can get it from our mechanic.Would be very grateful on your comments and help if possible. Thanks from Chris.

The only problem I know of regarding steering is Vauxhall Astras, 98 on, suffering power steering failure from electro hydraulic TRW pump failure. Also some units failing for leaking hydraulic fluid. This is quite common on other cars also with EHPS .If it was a known , common fault and a defect causing steering failure , they would have been forced to do a recall and all owners would have been contacted .Would be interested to know how this could damage gearbox .
