2002 Vauxhall Astra cuts out on idle

my 2002 1.6 astra automatic cuts out on ideling had it computer checked showed nothing wrong [as engine management light is not coming on] the car will only run when engine revs are up and even then it runs ropey which makes it impossible to drive. does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is

i had the same problem with my astra this is my friends e.mail but i can tell it was my idle speed motor i was told give it a clean but but it didnot work so bought new one you could try cleaning it first it is easy to do but donot damage seal on it it is on the side of carb

Is it 8 valve or 16 valve, then i can help you

hi mr fixit it is a 1.6 8 valve auto hope you have a solution

It will need a new idle control valve, cleaning them on this model does not tend to work as they are usually electrically u/s, also clean out the throttle body.
