Hello I Have a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8v 2002 and when i put my foot down to say go from 30mph to 50mph the car loses power and the Engine Management Light starts flashing every time i try to accelerate, when i pull over the car sort of shakes, i have changed the spark plugs- leads and coil pack, but i still have the same problem, when i turn the car off and back on it starts fine again sometimes with the lights on sometimes with the lights off.i have had a Diagnostic test done and they said they cannot find anything wrong with the car :( Please can someone help or suggest what the problem maybe as i do not have much money to take it to a garage and i think they will rip me off. thanks you SO SO much in advance

EGR valve ? Could try cleaning out the throttle body, butterfly plate & holes with suitable intake cleaner and brush.

Replacing your EGR valve with a new one will only work for a while, as that will fail too. You need to take your car to your local Vauxhall Main Dealer and tell them you want the ECU update that removes the EGR Valve from the ECU, this update is only available for the 1.6 8v engine. It is a very very common problem, hence Vauxhall writing the software for the update. This is the only way you will fix the problem for good, its a shame you didnt join up earlier when you 1st had this problem, as we could have saved you the money on buying a new EGR and advised you straight away of the ECU update. But hey hey

Average price will be about £50-£60, it the price of hooking it upto there Tech2 computer, the price varies slightly as all dealers are franchises so have different labour charges. It has been known however that some dealers will do it for free as its a design fault. So maybe a bit of haggling wont go a miss.

check your crank and cam sensors are not faulty.

It looks like this is a very very common problem. I have the exact same problem. I have changed the EGR valve, the coil pack, HT leads and spark plugs and theres still no change to the problem.

Thanks for your soulution, i will take it down to vauxhall and see if that works. wish i had seen this earlier as i would have saved a lot of money but thanks again.
