2006 Vauxhall Astra dragging

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2006
have just purchased car from main dealer and driven about 500 miles since. It was 23,500 miles on clock when purchased. On about four occasions the engine seems to "drag", ie lose power for a second or two before resuming to normal. Canyou tell me why this should happen.

If it happens when the engine is hot, it could be the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) valve kicking in for a second, which lowers the combustion temperature if its getting too hot

the problem you are having is the egr valve is sticking due to carbon build up inside it go back to the nearest dealer to you and they will replace the egr valve and also put in a blanking gasket and reprogramme the ecu unit for you this will cost about 85 pounds to resolve

The problem that you are having seems like the early stages of the one that I have descibed.

If the EGR is faulty then noramlly it announces itself with a yellow warning symbol on the dashboard.

Your car is 2006, so it is possibly still under manufacturer's warranty. If it is under warranty then be careful about the banking plate option in case it validates that warranty.

Please keep us posted on how you get on.
