1995 Vauxhall Astra car just stops in the middle of driving

More than once as I drove along the road my car just slowed right down and came to a stop After a few minutes when I start it up it goes again any idea why this happens thank you

Many possible causes i.e could be EGR valve , throttle body needing cleaned etc. etc.
