EGR valve is a common cause of this problem , here is an example of someone with same fault .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right , all sorted , bought a new egr valve from the local motor factors for a quarter of the price , took the old one off and low and behold full of crap , give it clean out later on and keep it as a spare for someone , anyways , all sorted and drives a lot better and no kangerooing deffo going to give it a clean once in a while , my engine is a z16 xe by the way

oh and just for future refference the egr valves are different on this engine , one can be cleaned out and the other cant , if the sensor wiring plug is facing up it can be cleaned , if it sticks out the to side then it cant ! mine could but i bought it anyways ! hope this helps someone !
