2002 Vauxhall Astra engine cooliing ligt

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2002
Variant: comfert diesel estate
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The electronicaly controlled engine cooling and engine management lights comes on now and again and the engine goes to reduced power and the rev counter drops to zero. After a while the lights go out and all is o.k. I have checked the coolant level and it is up to the mark and the temperature gauge never goes above normal. Any ideas?

the coolant temp sensor could have a poor connection on the wiring plug or sensor could be on its way out
