2008 Vauxhall Astra power steering pump

My car has been making a strange humming noise and has failed to start up on a few occasions. Lookers have ordered me a new power steering pump, can this soley be to blame for the problems i have experienced?

Your car has Electric Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) , so knowing the complexities of the electrics / ECUs on todays cars and how fickle they are , it might affect starting .Only time will tell after replacing pump ,if fault cured .Would be interested in update after repair if it solved problem .
