Car will not start when fuel in tank drops to half full.

2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Club
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.6 Club
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Had diagnostic check (twice) carried out by Vauxhall dealer. No faults recorded on Electronic Management Unit. They suggested it may be due to faulty fuel tank. The tank would cost £380 PLUS labour charges and no guarantee that this would solve problem. Too much to spend for a 'might be the cause' resolution.Anyone had a similar experience with a relatively modern Astra?

Have you tried taking off the filler cap when this happens, you might have a vacuum in the tank cause by a blocked breather or a crushed pipe. You might have a prfoblem with the fuel pump or its pick up.
