2005 Vauxhall Astra noisey engine

over heated and was half a mile from services, once colled down drove there with no water in at all, got recovered home, next morning found the problem to be burst pipe, pipe was replaced, now has a constant noise on the engine, first opinon was that one piston ring needed replaceing, spoke to another person he said its sounds to noisey top end, power is there no performance change, not smoking, any problem is the noise, any ideas would b great :D many thanks
