1993 Vauxhall Astra engine keeps dying

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 1993
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi there,

Hope you can give me some advise before I take it to the mechanics please.

The problem happens at least once or twice a day whilst driving, or at traffic lights. The cars engine will all of a sudden just die...then won't start for at 5/10 minutes after, sometimes longer, and when it does start it screeches and squeals! It is quite scary, as I said, it happens also whilst I am driving along and all of a sudden it just goes dead... The spark plugs have been changed, as I know this could be one of the issues, but has made no difference whatsoever, could it be a blockage of some sort?

Please help if you can, thank you!

The screeching and squealing sounds like the alternator belt slipping , which wont help . Could be needing adjusted or probably replaced .

I had the very same problem and couldn't sort it out for months, it drove me crazy, then an RAC chap looked at it and traced it to a unit attached to the coil (coil module), changed that and it run like a dream.
