2001 Vauxhall Astra yellow engine symbol blinks when i accelerate - please help

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.4 Petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hello Guys, I badly require your help. As stated above, at the moment, I have the yellow light that blinks when I accelerate, this affects the performaance of the car as she does to pick up speed, as in she revs, but very slow to pick up speed, and the gear stick vibrates a bit, espically when coming to an idle.

The thing is, when I return to my car in an hour or so one of two things happen:
1) Engine light will stay on, but will not blink and will not affect the performance
2) The light will not be on - but comes back everytime, maybe 2-3 weeks down the road.

I have brought it to the main dealer and couldnt say with 100% what the fault was. I replaced the coil pack and that was not the problem. The car has 100,000 miles on the clock.

I have being told that the next step would be to replace the EGR value - I did a little research on this and these seem to be the symoptions of a faulty EGR?

Any information that you can provid would be most welcoming.

Thanks in advance.

Could well be EGR valve , very common fault . Simple job to replace . You can try cleaning but usually only lasts for short time. Best to replace , especially at that mileage .

You can also blank it off , many have .Here is the comments from someone on an other forum who had the same prob.

Blanking EGR Valve - Vauxhall Astra - Number_Cruncher
I wish that I had fitted this blanking plate earlier - it's a different car! It is more responsive, and although we don't keep spreadsheets, it seems to be using less fuel.

My concerns about the wisdom of making this modification had stopped me from implementing the blanking plate solution until a month ago. It was then that I learnt that in the newest release of engine management software for this engine, the EGR is disabled. Further to this, if the EGR valve is stuck open constantly, there is now a Vauxhall blanking gasket available to fit under a warranty code in Vauxhall dealers.
