Heater not working

1999 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Club
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 1999
Variant: 1.6 Club
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
The heater only works when the weather is warm and the car is moving. If is idling the air becomes cold. When the temperature outside is very cold the heater turns on but the heat only kicks in after about 30 mins. The car does not overheat. Could this just be the thermostat or could it be the head gasket?

sounds like you have a air lock in the water system which would give you the symtums that you are getting all that i can suggest is to run the car up to temp until tne radiator fan comes on and loosen the radiator cap to allow the trapped air to escape and turn the interior fan on to full and heater to screen this way you will remove all the trapped air in the system if the problem still persists then there is a problem else where hope this helps
