2006 Vauxhall Astra gear/starting

As my journey gets longer the gear lever gets difficult to change gear.when I stop and put the car in to neutral it will not go into any gear,start the engine up problem solved

Could be gear shift cables / linkage or clutch . Check gearbox oil level and clutch fluid level .
