No power when accelerator pressed

2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Sport (petrol)
Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.6 Sport (petrol)
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Yesterday whilst sitting at some lights the car lost all power, I pressed the accelerator and nothing no revs or anything (no engine management light or battery light came on). A friend got it going again by removing and putting back the battery but today it has done the same thing but wouldn't work again after doing the same as yesterday!

Ended up fiddling about with the accelerator unit where the prongs are and it is now working again.

It has been put on a diagnostics and no error codes have appeared.

The carburetor is clean however I think we may need to change the MAF as advised by someone previously, was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and if so what would you recommend doing to prevent this happening again? Thanks in advance.

We have had the pedal unit changed and still not working, had to have it towed home. Really at a loss now as had a mechanic look and he said he had never had this problem where the pedal unit being replaced hasn't sorted it. Any other ideas?

Tried changing the pedal unit and that has made no difference, do you have any other suggestions? Had to have the car towed home this time.

Unplug the air flow meter then start it up,
if the AFM or circuitry is faulty the unplugging it means the ECU ignores it and if it runs better then suspect the AFM.

The car isn't running at all now, can't get any power. Should I still try doing what you said? Sorry I am not very good with cars I am just relaying all this back to my partner and friend who are baffled by this.
