2010 Vauxhall Astra oil light and clicking sound

The oil light comes on for about 2 seconds and there is a loud clicking sound until i increase the revs,
it is worse when the car is cold

Assume oil level o.k ? If not been done for a while an engine oil and filter change , using good oil might help .
