2004 Vauxhall Astra oil change

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.6 easytronic h model
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Hi all

I have recently bought this astra and since buying it I have replaced the oil. Vauxhall recommends using 5w30 fully syn however since replacing the oil it seems use a lot. I have been told to increase the grade to 10w40 part syn. I'm ready to do however my question do I have to replace the filter again as it has only been on a couple of months?

I think that engine was very bad for oil consumption if I remember correctly

I have had a compression test done and everything is and my garage did say they are known for eating oil. Thanks for the response

Same model as mine but I don't have a problem with oil consumption, in fact I have never had to add oil. Have you checked for leaks ?
"They all have that problem" often means they can't be arsed to check.

It IS a known fault with that engine , every one in the trade knows that .They even had to put it in the handbook . Astra handbook it indicates an oil consumption of 0.6 litre per 1000 km (1 litre/1000 miles) is to be expected - and that's for new cars
