the engine cuts out on occasions usually when i have braked.

My car has a similar issue, its a 2002 Astra 1.6 SXI.
Prior to the engine cutting out when braking, the engine electronics light or the oil light came on intermittently and the car would under rev and shake uncontrollably. Which ever light comes on, it only seems to occur until I have switched off the engine, upon restart its not for about 20 miles or so. Now a couple of weeks later, the engine management light has come on (now off again) and car is continuing to cut out sporadically but the rev's are completely normal.
Can anyone help please, its a scary situation to be in!
