Couldn't pull off in first today. Accelerator right down and car just sort of jumped along for a bit as if it was stalling?

Your accelerator pedal sends a signal via an ecu to the throttlebody, this it what lets air intothe engine and controls your speed.
I assume by your brief description that a yellow spanner light is on?
It sounds like the car is in Limp Mode which is a " get you home" mode really.
It needs to be put on a scanner by your local garage and see what they suggest.
Please dont guess what is wrong because not only will you waste money but you could over complicate the diagnosis.
These cars have very many faults that put the car into limp mode.
