driving home the battery light came on the n couldn't steer switched engine off now it won't start

Get your Alternator checked - it sounds as though it is not charging the Battery. Get your Battery tested at the same time.

Battery will be flat due to alternator not charging . Verify by checking alternator outpt with meter .Battery may be o.k after charging .
