2003 Vauxhall Astra car losing power

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2003
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi.
Please can someone help me. I am desparate to get some information from someone that really does no what their talking about.

3 weeks ago a light came on in my car. It was the electric fault light (the light is a car with a spanner going through it)

I took it to my local garage who said it was the throttle body. When i asked how much it will cost to get fixed it said £320 for a new throttle body, £60 for programming plus labour and vat a total of £514.

This was a shock as i do not have that type of money to hand. Before i agreed for him to do this he said i have a sensor on my pedal and the problem might be that but he isnt sure. I told him that im not gonna pay £514 when he isnt sure.

He said the computer was saying it was the throttle body.
I went away and a friend suggested buying a used throttle body, which i have done. It was difficult as i needed an electrical one and most are cabled.

I went to my friends husbands garage and he told me that the computer was showing it was the throttle body. Today he put in the throttle body i bought (which isnt the first that we tryed) he did the pedal to.

This has not fixed the problem. It feels a bit better but i can still feel sluggishness when i go into first then second. He said he's done everything he can do.

I am at a loss. could it just be a faulty wire. Why would the light still be on when it has had everything done.

Different garages say different things.

I dont no what to do.

Please can some help me.

Kind regards

Sarah

Think you want to find a good garage that can diagnose the fault correctly .You could get the likes of this IF needed at a lot less cost than you've been quoted.

or brand new

You can get problems with the wiring /plug connection at the accl pedal and at the throttle body .If it is sluggish I would check the plugs and coil pack rather than throttle body .Could be breaking down under load and dropping a cyl momentarily .I would also check the timing , especially if the timing belt has not been replaced as it should have been done . 2003 onwards, the recommended interval was changed to every 6 yrs / 60,000 miles.

Hold the phone!
The car with a spanner through it isn't the engine fault light,it's the service light.
it comes on when the car is due a service.
Now I'm not saying the throttle body isn't faulty,or anything else for that matter, but from what you write the car engine needs serviced and the service schedule reset!
So,first things first, get it serviced and the check service light re-set.
chances are it will help with the general engine response.
And I'd suggest you go to another garage, not either of the two you've been to,I mean if they cant tell the difference between a EML lamp and a service due reminder lamp well..........
Vauxhaul's service lamps wont go off unless reset with the correct software.
Oh,and "EML" is short for engine malfunction indicator lamp,it kind of looks like a little sort of leggo like engine with a border round it,go turn your ignition on and look for it,
you'll see it.

Vauxhalls usually come up with INSP light on dash when due service .Thats what came up with family members Astra they had a few years back .No longer got that car or would have verified with owners manual .

Vauxhall service light reset procedure .

Vauxhall - Most passenger cars 1999 onwards
•Start with key in but Ignition OFF
•Press and hold Trip Reset button on the dash
(on some models you may also need to depress the brake pedal)
•Turn Ignition ON
•Keep holding Trip Reset (and brake pedal) until the service indicator shows the appropriate interval
•Release Trip Reset (and brake pedal)
•Turn Ignition OFF
•Turn Ignition back ON to confirm
