2006 Vauxhall Astra intermittently not starting, cim & crank sensor replaced today, more problems

Hi everyone, I would really appreciate any help here.
A few months ago my car would not start on the odd occasion. Starter motor fine, engine would not catch. This problem became more frequent. We changed the spark plugs but this did not make any difference. The battery was charged on a few different occasions as this still did not help. Also the horn would not work.
The car was in a Vauxhall Dealer today having the CIM replaced (as per the recall thing). They also replaced the Crank Shaft Sensor. They told me to come and pick up the car and to bring the spare key to be reset to the new CIM.
Apparently this caused a problem and I was asked to bring the car back another day. They then said that the Mechanic had taken the car for a drive and that it wasnt running properly. (It had been fine before if it would start). They then said I had to go home and that they would have another look and that the car might need an ECU. (I cannot afford this!!). Have been researching the Web and this seems to be a pretty common problem. Can anyone help me please? Thank you very much

If the car was running o.k prior to this work being carried out tell them it must be something they have done that has caused it .Let them know not to carry out any chargeable repairs without your authorization and that you are prepared to take it to get checked over and a report carried out by another garage or the AA if needed .Or contact Vauxhall customer services if getting messed about .
