I have a 1.8 astra coupe 2001. The car squeals under acceleration from the engine with a loss of power, revs to a max of 2500 rpm allowing to get to a max speed of 35 mph.

Or perhaps belt squeal ?

Might be worth checking the catalyst/exhaust system isnt blocked
That would give you lack of power with limited rpm and a strange hissing sound
