2003 Vauxhall Astra smell of petrol engine management light misfiring.....;-(

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2003
Variant: convertible
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
hi i drove over something which ripped my exhaust off and punctured fuel tank a modified fuel tank was sent for my mechanic to fix, it came with an extra pipe he didnt know how to fit with extra pipe has left one of the pipes off apparently its a breather pipe engine management light kept coming on first it said fuel rail(something like that or fuel trim) then it said cylinder 4 misfiring then it sounded like i was driving a helicopter so changed coil pack light has stayed off for a week now but today of all days its come back on since yday intermittent smell of petrol, and sometimes car feels sluggish foot to the floor and struggles to get to speed sometimes judders in lower gears, and sometimes its fine goes a bit noisy when need to change gears also thought it may be coz it was a cheap exhaust the noise...dont yet know wat the fault code is sayin but getting sick of it now...another mechanic cleaned the throttle the other day as i got a second opinion he also said the other week that my injectors need cleaning...my original mechanic said they dont as its petrol and also my fuel tanks was plastic...any ideas anyone...i have bought some sedex (i think thats wat its called) i havent used it yet is it worth to clean injectors??...also when i turn engine on the revs are just over 1000 in idle and sometimes goes 1250 and back 750 and up again whilst still sat in idle when turning engine on after been off for a while..thank you in advance for your advice

From your description it sound,s like a misfire, but I would get some one to check your lambda sensors closely in case of damage from original fault, but I am thinking misfire Due to all this damp weather.

hi thanks for your reply...i think he said he has checked all the sensors oxy ones aswel?? he put on diagnostics alot of times before and there was nothing pending just showed the problems listed before...so will need to find out what problem this is coming up with on diagnostics...now if it is misfiring what are the solutions to resolve the problem could it ruin my new coil pack?? would the redex petrol injector help or wld it b worth taking it to a fuel and injector specialist...now this mechanic is fixing under the insurance at what point do i pay for parts not related i have already paid for a new coil pack i know he making a profit but dont want him to be greedy with the profit and start charging me for parts he should be responsible for...also i feel a vibration on my steering wheel gearstick and sometime on my seat..thank you in advance

Of course the guy,s making a profit that's why we work after all ,but you are probably getting a fair deal as garage labour rates can be very expensive,I'm sure if you are not then gut feeling will tell you this ,most tech,s know that they are way cheaper than garage rates and do not usually exploit it ,like some of the horror stories you see on t.v.Im sure if he keep,s at it he will resolve your issue,s and you will still hopefully be cheaper than normal.
