2000 Vauxhall Astra cam belt broken. are valves bent?

My cam belt has broken, I've been told it may not be too much of a problem on my age car, re valves bending. Engine code X 16 SZR, 1.6 8 valve petrol. Is it likely that the valves will be bent or is there a chance that the valves don't come into contact with the pistons on this engine.

hi you will have bent the valves this is what you call an interfering engine sorry its not good news

Some of the older 1.6 8v engines were non-interference but your X16SZR is an interference engine .Most likely at least bent valves .
