2004 Vauxhall Astra car wont start unless ignition turned on for 2 minutes

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.6 club
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Here we go folks, this one has me stumped. When I attempt to start the car first time, it just clicks as if the battery is dead - the clock and date is always reset.

However if I then turn the key only half way so that the ignition is on and leave it for a minute or two hey presto the engine starts (eventually)

Any ideas? battery is fairly new. Its old shape astra with around 50000 miles on clock

Cheers

Maybe faulty ignition switch or lock sticking the switches are plastic and prone to fault but also the actual lock can stick and req, lubrication to fix.check your start wire with a test light and get someone to operate the ignition to test for this.
