i am hoping that your astra is diesel and has got the 1.7dti engine in,if it has i have just sorted the same problem with my own car of the make, the problem was the ait sensor which is built into the maf sensor which is located on the air pipe coming out of the air box,the fault code for this is p0110,to test this idea unplug the maf sensor with engine of,and start the car,if this is the problem then your car will run better than it has been, dont be tempted to just leave maf sensor unplugged because the car after so many miles will go into limp mode, change maf sensor and your car will be fine, hope this helps.
