Crankshaft sensor and metal in the engine

2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Life
Car: Vauxhall Astra

Hi everyone!

Our car broke down recently, the AA said we needed a new crankshaft sensor a this was making the engine not start.

We took it to Halfords Autocentre who said the news crankshaft sensor didn't help, as there is metal filings in the engine.

Can the engine be flushed out, or would we have to take thier advice and buy a new engine???

Any help would be appreciated! :-)

If you have no reason to believe there is anything major wrong with your car i would be inclined to get a second opinion.
the AA is normally correct in their diagnosis and for halfords to just say you have metal filings in your engine and it needs a new one sounds like total c**p to me.
Ask your friends for a recommended garage and have your car moved to them for a second oppinion.

I agree! Get a second opinion!

The Crankshaft sensor on these sit under the oil filter, sometimes oil can eventually get into the connector after oil changes and cause an iffy connection, I would check connection first.

Was the oil level ok before the breakdown?

If so, definitely get a second opinion!!
