2007 Vauxhall Astra idle fluctuating

as soon as i turn the engine on and my car sits in idle, it fluctuates between 500-1000 rpm constantly jumping up and down. Also the engine light is permanently on. ive had mechanics i know try to fix this problem by even taking it a vauxhall garage and they stuck it into their computer and it came up with know faults. any help?

clean the fuel fillter this may help also try injector cleaner this dos not always work but worth a try

I had an identicle problem with my vauxhall astra 2000.
I was originally advised to change the oxygen sensor which made no change. nothing else was showing up on the diagnostics so decided to to have a look myself with the help of a mechanic at work. We eventually wittled it down to the air mass flow meter (which connects in to the air filter pipe) which solved the problem straight away.
Although different to mine this sensor is in a similar place and easily accessible in the 2007 model as there is one in my family.
