2000 Vauxhall Astra knackered?

Car: Vauxhall Astra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 sxi
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
My daughter allowed her car to run out of oil, she said that the oil light came on and then the car stopped. It would not re-start after new oil was put in. My question is, is there some sort of safety device fitted to the car to prevent the engine seizing up? Or is the engine likely to have been knackered?

hi taffy duck does the engine still turn over also check that the cam belt is ok and not snapped you should also make sure that the oil is the recomended oil. as with vauxhalls if the oil is to thick this can lead to trouble with the hydrolic tappets not filling and this could cause starting problems it may take some turning over to start. on the other hand if the car just stopped and will not turn over it could be totally seized and knackered

hi,if youv run it low on oil its cream crackered! I done it in a 05 corsa and it was dead..the oil light gave me 20 secs warning and went bang! its a bad fault but makes them money..get a 2nd hand one from scrap yard and a good cheap man 2 fit it.worst price..200 for engine,150 to fit.all the best..
