2004 Vauxhall Astra car turning over but not starting at randon times

For a while now my Astra will run fine but then every couple of weeks it'll turn over but fail to start. It does turn over at normal speed and sometimes splutters as if it's about to catch but nver quite makes it. I can jump or bump start it when this happens and then it's fine again until the next time. The battery has been changed and so have the plugs but still having the same problem. I ckecked with Vauxhalls and the fuel filter is a liftime one located in the tank. One thing I have noticed is if I park on a hill nose down it starts fine. Any suggestions?

I would check for codes firstly,If none then basically you have to try and see whats not happening when the vehicle will not go, by your description it could be a fuel issue,or foreign body in the tank causing fuel starvation;I would substitute a clear fuel hose into the feed line to check for this,obviously i do not know how mechanically skilled you are,You may have to get a tech. to look at it.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that it's been on the diagnostics 3 times and no code errors showing although I should say it wasn't through Vauxhalls just a garage that I normally use. I'm not sure if Vauxhalls would find anything different but i don't fancy paying £70 if they're going to say they can't find anything either especially with the garage I use not charging me. With the foreign body in fuel tank or whatever it could be starving the engine of fuel would that happen every time or randomly as it does at the moment? With the hill starting seeming to work I'm wondering whether it could be and injector problem.
