1998 Vauxhall Astra high revs

my car revs as if the accelarator is stuck on really high when stopping at the lights also doing around 50mph going up hills looses power and doing on the motorway doing 70mph try to put moore power on its like its missing have checked the plugs any answers thanks stevieo
