2004 Vauxhall Astra problem with reversing and gears wont change

when we start the car it goes straight into second gear it will move up a gear but then gets stuck in 3rd gear, gears will not go up or down manually or automaticaly. Also car doesnt move at all if the reverse gear is selcted it just revs and stays stationary. Any help would be much appreciated thanks

check out the transmission oil could be low
