1996 Vauxhall Astra car jerks with quater tank of petrol

Hi, my 1996 vauxhall astra jerks when there is only quater tank of petrol. The car has had a service and we have changed the petrol filter and HT leads, but the problem still exists. There is a small hole in the exhust but I have beed told this will not have to much bearing on the problem.

If the fault only happens when the fuel level is low then it must be related to the fuel pump and supply pick up in the tank, you may also have a bit of water in the tank, with the age of the car in mind you would be best to remove and clean the tank and check fuel pick ups at the same time
