My gear stick has just came out in my hand, the plastic colar that the ball at the bottom of the stick sits in. can this be fixed without buying the whole gear stick

i had this same issue with my old astra. that plastic bit u need to get it off. it aint easy but u need to use a pair of grips and gently keep twisting it it will take a wile but will come off. but be carfull as u can damage ur gear box/gear stick. but it dose need to come off so u can put a new knob on
