1994 Toyota Celica engine keeps cutting out

start the car in the morning engine cuts out straight away then when it gets warm its normally ok just cuts out every now and then once engine is warm

it sounds as though you have coolant temperature sensor fault.

if the coolant sensor was faulty would,nt the car show signs of over heating

Not sure on this fault but as Mr Fixit says, could be coolant temp sensor - but to answer your query, the engine/ cooling system has various sensors, the one Mr Fixit is talking about is one that will tell the ECU what the coolant temp is, not one that controls the temp/guage/thermostat etc. The ECU will be over compensating for the information being received by the temp sensor.
